Child marriages compromise girls development

Adolescent-Girls-Empowerment-ProjectMinister Women Development and Human Rights Anis Haroon has said that child marriage not only is a violation of human rights and compromises the development of girls, but also results in biological and physiological complications.

This she said while presiding a meeting organised for the cause of early marriages by HANDS Pakistan, a local NGO. She said in Pakistan, marriage at an early age is a reality for many girls, and at times parents force their daughters to get married at an early age due to cultural, social and financial reasons.

Young IT wizard wins silver medal in int’l competition

Young-IT-wizard-wins-silver-medal-in-intl-competitionA young IT wizard, studying in grade-9, from Lahore has won silver medal in the e-biko International Project Olympiad held recently in Ankara, Turkey.

Muhammad Abdullah Abid, son of, Muhammad Ismail Abid, a student of PakTurk School Lahore developed software ‘Rush Hour Controller’ which can change traffic signals according to the number of vehicles on the road after collecting data through a normal webcam. Subsequently, he was sent to participate in the global information and communications technology competition where 176 projects from 48 countries including USA, Thailand, India, Afghanistan, Turkey, Nigeria, Albania and Brazil were presented.

PML-N-issued-notice-over-display-of-Tigers-Lions-in-ralliesLAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought a report from the Ministry of Climate Change and the PML-N on a petition against exhibition of white tigers in public meetings and rallies during the election campaign.

The court directed the ministry to submit until June 21 details of the licences issued during the last five years for the import of animals.

The bench remarked that it was a matter of grave concern if there was no check on the import and utilisation of animals, especially wild cats. The bench also observed that it was necessary to see the number of licences issued for the import of animals and the procedure for issuing such licences.

Pakistan ranks least racists countries in the world: Survey

Pakistan-ranks-least-racists-countries-in-the-worldPakistan has been ranked as one of the least racist countries in the world, according to a report in the Washington Post.
 
Data tabulated from the World Values Survey, compiled by two Swedish economists, implied that Pakistanis was among the more racially tolerant countries.
 
The surveyors asked respondents in more than 80 different countries to identify the sorts of people they would not wish to have as neighbours. Some replied, “people of a different race.” It was concluded that this question could serve as an accurate indicator of racial tolerance in different countries.
